چکیده

In this article, we compare the nature and function of selfparent informant discrepancies for adolescent personality pathology using two methods: standard difference scores (SDS) and polynomial regressions. In total, 489 11to 18year-old youth (54% female) and their parents reported on youth personality pathology traits and general psychopathology. Findings supported convergence and divergence in parentand self-reports. Potential utility of informant discrepancies also emerged, such that discrepancies on trait disagreeableness and trait compulsivity predicted youth externalizing problems using the SDS approach and the polynomial regression approach; however, the polynomial regression approach yielded a more complex and nuanced characterization of informant discrepancies than did the SDS approach. Taken together, these results suggest that polynomial regressions may provide a more comprehensive picture regarding the meaning and utility of informant discrepancies.

Self- and parent report of adolescent personality pathology: informant agreement and relations to dysfunction.

Assessment of personality pathology relies heavily on self-report, although it has been argued that proxy report may contribute valuable information. The present study examined reports of adolescents and parents on dimensions of adolescent personality pathology, as assessed by the DAPP-BQ-A, and their relations to clinician-reported dysfunction in a sample of 110 youngsters referred to mental h...

Criterion validity of interpreting scores from multi-informant statistical interactions as measures of informant discrepancies in psychological assessments of children and adolescents.

Parents and adolescents often provide discrepant reports of adolescent and family behavior. Recent work indicates that scores from indirect measures of discrepancies between parent and adolescent reports, namely, statistical interactions between reports, longitudinally predict adolescent psychopathology. However, no previous work supports the criterion validity of interpreting scores from these...

Parent-adolescent concordance on the Revised Diagnostic Interview for Borderlines (DIB-R) and the Childhood Interview for Borderline Personality Disorder (CI-BPD).

While the degree of concordance between parent and adolescent self-report of internalizing and externalizing pathology is well studied, virtually nothing is known about concordance in borderline pathology and the implication of parent-adolescent discrepancies for outcomes. The present study aimed to (1) examine discrepancies between parents and adolescents on two interview-based measures of bor...

Testing informant discrepancies as predictors of early adolescent psychopathology: why difference scores cannot tell you what you want to know and how polynomial regression may.

Multiple informants commonly disagree when reporting child and family behavior. In many studies of informant discrepancies, researchers take the difference between two informants' reports and seek to examine the link between this difference score and external constructs (e.g., child maladjustment). In this paper, we review two reasons why difference scores cannot serve as unambiguous predictors...

Internal consistency and associated characteristics of informant discrepancies in clinic referred youths age 11 to 17 years.

In this study, we examined the internal consistency of informant discrepancies in reports of youth behavior and emotional problems and their unique relations with youth, caregiver, and family characteristics. In a heterogeneous multisite clinic sample of 420 youths (ages 11-17 years), high internal consistency estimates were observed across measures of informant discrepancies. Further, latent p...
